The pandemic has changed client preferences and it is important for businesses to stay in touch with what their clients need. Client advisory boards are a powerful tool to understand the perspective of the client and improve the business experience. While in-person meetings were paused during the pandemic, it is now important to resume these conversations, even if they have to be done virtually. Virtual meetings allow for greater engagement and involvement from clients who are geographically separated. However, there are some adaptations that need to be made for virtual meetings to be effective. Meetings should be shorter, social activities can still be incorporated, and surveys can be used to gather information in advance and delve into topics more quickly. Facilitators should actively draw participants into the conversation and provide guidance on being effective meeting participants in a virtual setting. While many advisors look forward to returning to in-person meetings, virtual board meetings will continue to have a role even after the pandemic is over. They provide the ability to bring together clients who are far away from the office and attending virtual meetings will remain normal. The key is to adapt to the virtual setting and continue using client advisory boards to stay relevant to clients' needs.
