Course Description
This program illustrates the benefits of using §1031 tax-deferred exchanges for clients to protect them from paying taxes after the disposal of real estate investments. The course details the entire exchange process, as well as covers some of the more complex applications of §1031 to ensure exchanges are well-received by the IRS. If the financial planner does not understand the basics of a 1031 Exchange, their clients could face significant tax consequences.
Learning Objectives
Develop an understanding of the 1031 Exchange process and be able to assist in setting up a 1031 Exchange for clients.
Be able to identify what type of property qualifies for the 1031 Exchange.
Be able to perform simple capital gains calculations and to illustrate the basic tax consequences
