Course Description

In portfolios increasingly dominated by large-cap equities and technology, what role should real estate play? This session will examine the case for listed real estate as a distinct portfolio allocation, including its potential diversification benefits. The program will consider how an allocation to REITs can complement broader equity portfolios, which may help reduce overall portfolio volatility.

From there, the session will look inside real estate itself and explore how sustainability considerations may affect the quality and long-term economics of the underlying assets. Topics will include energy efficiency, renewable energy procurement, physical climate risk, resilience, and building quality.

For financial advisors, the session provides a practical way to consider real estate’s role in client portfolios and a framework for discussing both the allocation and sustainability considerations.

This Partner Solutions webinar is sponsored by Vert Asset Management.

Learning Objectives
  1. Evaluate the potential contribution of listed real estate to a diversified portfolio using characteristics such as correlation and volatility.
  2. Analyze how property-type considerations, including energy use, operating efficiency, physical climate risk and capital requirements, can affect the financial performance and long-term value of real estate investments.
  3. Assess how sustainability information can supplement traditional financial and real estate metrics when comparing REITs and evaluating the quality of their underlying portfolios.
  4. Develop a clear explanation of the role of REITs in a client portfolio, including how diversification and sustainability considerations can inform allocation decisions.
