5 Actions CFPs Can Take to Narrow the Racial Wealth Gap
Course Information
Content Level: Foundational
NAPFA Subject Area: A-Financial Planning Process
Course Description
This webinar compares the results of two American financial plans which both use 2020 probability-weighted assumptions from the Federal Reserve, Department of Labor and other non-partisan sources. What’s the difference between the two plans? One is for a 30-year-old White couple and the other is for a 30-year-old Black couple. The two plans reveal that today’s racial wealth gap will persist for at least the next fifty years, absent intervention or a change in how our industry delivers financial advice. This session will teach practitioners which assumptions are most responsible for the present and future racial wealth gap and provide actionable insights to serve clients of all races better.
Learning Objectives
  1. Understand the systemic and historical context to the racial wealth gap
  2. Learn how both systemic barriers and individual choices contribute to the wealth gap
  3. Explore how planners can support Black households in closing the wealth gap
