Couse Description

This webinar will equip financial advisors with essential Social Security education and updates, including the 2026 annual “automatic determinations’’ and recent key program rule changes. Specifically, it will cover the January 2025 repeal of two pension-related rules, as well as any current pending legislative proposals which could impact retirement financial planning.

Advisors will also gain insights from the January 2025 study, "Social Security at 90: A Bipartisan Roadmap for the Program’s Future," which explores solutions for closing the program’s long-term funding gap; the study is by the National Academy of Social Insurance, AARP, the National Institute on Retirement Security, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Attendees will leave with actionable knowledge to guide clients through Social Security’s evolving landscape.

Learning Objectives
  1. Use the new 2026 bend point and COLA numbers to accurately analyze the primary insurance amount (PIA) and the amount of the annual inflation increase for an individual client who has not yet started collecting Social Security, so the client can plan for their income in retirement.
  2. Understand how to evaluate the effects of the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and Government Pension Offset (GPO) pension rule repeals on new benefit amounts for individuals collecting non-covered pensions, as well as Social Security retirement, spousal and survivor benefits, so they understand their increased annual income.
  3. Develop client-specific recommendations using at least three approaches to address Social Security’s long-term funding challenges.
