Portfolio Strategy or Parlor Trick: The Efficacy of Tax-Loss Harvesting
Course Information
Content Level: Intermediate
NAPFA Subject Area: D-Income Tax Planning
Course Description
With unprecedented losses in both equities and fixed income over the course of 2022, advisors are focusing on where they can add value. Many agree that selling securities at a loss and using that loss to offset future gains provides a tax alpha to clients that creates advantages over a buy-and-hold strategy. Others disagree and proclaim that tax-loss harvesting is merely “kicking the can down the road” on tax obligations. Attend this webinar to hear two industry experts debate the efficacy and use cases for tax-loss harvesting as well as techniques for ensuring that advisors are executing these strategies prudently.
Learning Objectives
  1. Investigate the effectiveness of tax-loss harvesting
  2. Determine when it is useful and not useful
  3. Learn techniques to maximize benefits to clients and scale the process
