Course Description
A trustee of a trust is one of the most demanding roles associated with trust administration. Accordingly, trustees should be aware of their roles and responsibilities when they are called upon to handle this task. Topics that will be discussed include a basic overview of trusts, ethical duties of the trustee, responsibilities of the trustee, as well as specific considerations of trust administration from the trustee’s perspective.
Learning Objectives
  1. Gain a more complete understanding of the ethical considerations and duties of trustees in trust administration
  2. Understand a Trustee’s responsibilities in carrying out the directives in the trust, managing and safekeeping, assets, as well providing regular and reasonable distributions to beneficiaries pursuant to trust directives
  3. Gain a better understanding of additional considerations and duties throughout the trust administration process
Speaker
Erica Johnson

Erica Johnson is a Partner in the law firm of AMBLER | KEENAN | MITCHELL | JOHNSON. She is admitted to practice law before the Supreme Court of the State of Colorado and the United States District Court for the District of Colorado.

Johnson received her B.S. in Broadcasting Management from Northern Arizona University in 1989. She was awarded her Juris Doctor from the University of Denver College of Law. Her practice emphasizes estate planning, probate, trust administration, and second and stepparent adoption. She is a member of the American Academy of Estate Planning Attorneys. She served on the Denver Mayor’s GLBT Commission from 2008 - 2014, having served as Chair of the organization 2011-2012. Her other professional associations include membership in the Denver Bar Association, Trusts and Estates section of the Colorado Bar Association, Colorado Women’s Bar Association, Colorado Lesbian and Gay Bar Association, and Denver Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce. She is a frequent speaker on the topic of estate planning for unmarried couples.

Johnson was awarded the Professional Woman of the Year award from the Denver Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce in 2006 and a Philanthropic Leadership award from the Denver Foundation in 2012.

She is a proud Colorado native, born and raised in Littleton, Colorado. She and her wife live in south Denver. She has made it approximately four miles down Broadway from where she grew up, showing off her adventurous personality.
